Question by MatthewM: With Java Networking, is it only possible to connect to a computer on my own network?
I have three computers and after a quick overview of Java Networking it seems that those three computers are the only one's that will have access to whatever networking related things I write. Is this true or false. Can I use Java Networking to connect two computers that are not on a network?

Networking protocols such as: TCP/IP, IPX, NETBEUI, Appletalk, etc..

Answer by efflandtIf the network has a DHCP server, you should be able to just plug in the ethernet cable and everything should be automatic (for TCP/IP). Otherwise you need to get IP address, netmask, gateway, and nameservers from the network admin and manually assign them.
